2021 Twitter Trends to Increase Engagement
With so much of Twitter being used for news, your social media engagement strategy should focus on adding value to your followers’ timelines.
Social media marketing is crucial for any size business whether it is a household brand, small-business, or start-up. In order to increase engagement and brand awareness, it’s important for social media managers to stay ahead of the curve and be pro-active with your audience.
So whether you’re a creative director or brand strategists preparing for your next strategy meeting or even a one-person creative, content creation, marketing, and CEO kind of person, you can feel confident knowing that you’ll be increasing engagement and your company’s ROI on KPI in no time.
Keep reading below for the top 5 Twitter trends to include in your social media plans for this year.
Video Content
It doesn’t really matter what social media platform you use, video content is key. Be sure to keep your captions for videos posted on Twitter between 10-12 words.
Videos are also a great way to do A/B testing for any upcoming sponsored social media post. During longer campaigns, This makes it easier to complete real-world research to determine the most effective content for your audiences.
Think about the best ways to engage your followers and tell your brand’s story through video. According to 5 Twitter Trends for 2020/2021: Latest Predictions According to Experts, “54% of consumers prefer video.” Check out the videos below from Wendy’s and Nike that highlight how videos included with tweets yield almost 10x more engagement.
Fleets
Fleets are Twitter’s version of SnapChat style Instagram ‘Stories.’ After rolling out in November, they are now available to all users. Fleets are the perfect way to engage your followers right in the moment and immediately following social and cultural events. You’re able to share a specific tweet to the Fleet or post a tweet from the posted image on Fleet. It’s not a major component of the Twitter experience, but can be used as a different way to engage with your audience.
Ways to use Fleet include introducing one-day sales and live broadcasting. Got any behind-the-scenes photos? Share them in a Fleet. Think of Fleet as a way to engage with your audience when you don’t want things to be permanent. Customers love those fling-ish moments with bigger as well as intimate brands.
In order for your followers to interact with your Fleet posts, you’ll need to have your DMs open to the public.
Memes
Memes have become a staple of cultural conversation. Memes are a great way to show your audience that you are culturally relevant, cool, and funny. And everybody loves humor.
When you can’t find the right words to reach your audience, a meme always provides the perfect solution. With the more recent US President Inauguration taking place, many brands monitored social media instead of scheduling posting with the many threats looming from news reports.
Instead of the social silence typically seen from brands as a way to “listen to the conversation,” the birth of the Bernie Meme hit the scene. Two of my favorite Bernie memes are below. In your next pitch meeting, don’t be afraid to say we need more memes likes Bernie.
Polls
Polls are good for just that– finding out what tickles the fancy of your followers. Do you need any assistance with naming new products or product designs? Consider asking your followers first through Twitter polls.
Polls help provide consumer insight without the middle man. These online surveys are a great way to test what works best for your audience.
You can set the duration of the poll and up to four different choices. You’ll also want to notify any creatives of the timeline for each poll so you can create a witty follow-up. You don’t want your audience to feel like they’re doing the polls without any interaction. Don’t forget to add the emojis please!
Get Creative
Innovation should be at the forefront of all of your Twitter content. In order to be creative, you’ll need to know who you are tweeting to. You can do this with an audience audit or simply take a look at what people say about your brand online.
A great way to get creative is how your brand uses emojis. If your brand or company doesn’t use emojis in their tweets, then you’re missing out on ways to connect with your audience.
Instead of simply retweeting, think about how you can continue the conversation by commenting with your RT. This also will help you track analytics and engagement with that particular tweet.
There are plenty of ways to be creative with your social content, but check out how MeUndies uses emoji and the iPhone’s native Twitter app in order to create a visually engaging way to interact with the tweet. 7-Eleven also packs on the emojis below for a great way to create the feeling of want and desire for a 7-Eleven food delivery.
Most social media strategist will tell you that your primary engagement should come from Instagram – and I agree with that. Twitter has its purpose and can be a beneficial tool for not only business purposes, but also your customers. So start planning content that’ll make your followers smile, cry, and most importantly, laugh.
