Predictions: 2020 Golden Globe Awards
And The 2020 Winners Are…
The Golden Globe 2020 Awards Nominations were recently released last week and the results are not surprising. Personally, Lupita Nyong'o was snubbed for her role of Adelaide in Jordan Peele’s sophomoric effort, ‘Us,’ which also received zero nominations for the year. Of course, we see the only African American nominations are Eddie Murphy in ‘Dolemite’ and everyone else is for the portrayal of Slaves which during the awards season is the only time white people feel comfortable mentioning the trauma that stains the legacy of the United States equality and equity.
All things aside, below are my projections of the winners with some commentary and analysis.
*Spoiler alert: Parasite should win every category it’s nominated for, but we shall see.
Best Director, Motion Picture

Best Screenplay, Motion Picture
PROJECT WINNER: Bong Joon Ho and Han Jin Won, “Parasite”
Noah Baumbach, “Marriage Story” - Overwritten. Should’ve been a stage play.
Anthony McCarten, “The Two Popes”
Quentin Tarantino, “Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood”
Steven Zaillian, “The Irishman”
Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy
Extremely difficulty category to choose a winner. A wide range of dope stories make it hard, but this (along with the foreign nominations) is one of the more diverse categories.
PROJECTED WINNER: “Jojo Rabbit” - Endearing and a tear-jerker, but off-putting for some.
RUNNER UP: “Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood” - Too many shots of feet to win this unless there’s a foot-fetish niche in Hollywood.
“Dolemite Is My Name” - I don’t think this is the year Eddie Murphy wins. Too many heavy hitters in this category.
“Knives Out” - Who dunnit, but also shouldn’t won-it.
“Rocketman” - Like a rocket, man.
Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture, Drama
PROJECTED WINNER: Scarlett Johansson, “Marriage Story” - Too much hype around this and awards season owes Netflix a W somehow.
Cynthia Erivo, “Harriet” - Horrible acting. Horrible story. Why is the black character the evil-antagonist?

Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy
Ana de Armas, “Knives Out” - If she’s not ditzy in real life, she does a good job in this film.
PROJECTED WINNER: Awkwafina, “The Farewell” - Watching her hold back tears throughout this film is a wonderful theatre experience.
RUNNER UP: Beanie Feldstein, “Booksmart”

Jennifer Lopez, “Hustlers” - She didn’t win for playing Selena, she won’t win playing a scamming stripper.
Margot Robbie, “Bombshell” - These films still give power to white men in power. But who am I?
